Stalking and Harrasment

Stalking is often a feature of domestic abuse, especially where control and coercive behaviour is used.  Stalkers are not always strangers and very often are known to the victim.

Stalking can consist of any type of behaviour such as regularly sending flowers or gifts, making unwanted or malicious communication (including telephone calls and texts), damaging property and physical or sexual assault. If the behaviour is persistent and clearly unwanted causing fear, harassment or anxiety then it is stalking.

Stalking became a specific offence in England and Wales as a result of amendments to the Protection from Harassment Act on 25th November 2012.
